2015_0414 DW Operations

Date: April, 14 2015
Time: 2:30pm MDT
Call in: 1-866-398-2885 and access code 747721

1. Review action items from March 31 call.

2. Re-cap from Feb. 25 Tech. Committee Meeting

  • EPA checklist
  • 2011a (multiple scenarios) resources and availability on the DW
  • Next Tech. Committee meeting?

3. DW website development

  • Data Request UI (Deployed. Maybe write help page for email notifications)
  • Forum email notification system (how-to posted to Forum Help. Should email how-to to 3State cooperators. Was an announcement on Emissions Modeling Report emailed to Cooperators; Gail, Rebecca DNR)
  • Image Browser (How to proceed - add metadata functionality? UI: display multiple images?)
  • Emissions Review Tool (consolidate source categories)
  • ENVIRON SA tool (update on discussion with ENVIRON)

4. Modeling I/O on viking

  • 2008 (WestJump WRF and WRFCAMx meteorology; checksums)
  • Support for 2011 met?
  • Unavailable status for Base2020_08a? (also /Base11a/ (do we want to make parts of platforms available?), WestJumpAQMS/MET/ WRFCAMx/. See request ID 1165)
  • errata: Base11a/EMIS/inputs/

5. Data Request status

  • Status page (3 submitted, 1 awaiting approval)

6. Other DW projects (work we want to keep track of, but don't necessarily need to rehash during every call)

Wrap Up

Attendes: Ralph, Shawn, Dustin, Rodger (Zac, Tom at EPA EI Conf. in SD)
Call Duration: 50 min

1. Minutes from previous call:

  • Regarding Data Request Overview: add additional examples of completed request form. (e.g. in addition to examples of attachments provided by Shannon Capps).

  • Regarding data request policy: Create mechanism wherein users can request portions of modeling platform as they are released (e.g. emissions before PGM, etc.), however, DW will not release partially fulfilled requests.

2. Re-cap from Feb. 25 Tech. Committee Meeting

  • EPA checklist: Discussion tabled until 4/29 call
  • 2011a platform will be released with caveats. Refer to notes in 2011a modeling platform description. Add status flag that indicates platform component availability. Revisit "Evaluation" score with Tom on the call.
  • Next Tech. Committee meeting: April 29/30 call in.

3. DW website development

  • Data Request UI has been deployed. Dusting is managing data requests and creating user ftp accounts for data download as requests are approved. New requests trigger new "Project" once they are approved, if project does not already exist.

  • DW Forum email notification system is in place and appears functional. Currently testing functionality outside of CIRA. "How-to" describing user steps to watch forum topics was posted to "website-help" on DW Forum. (Q: was email announcement sent to cooperators for review of Emissions Modeling report?)

  • Image Browser: Shawn has created a version of the image browser as .Net control. This will allow implementation of desired dual plot functionality by creating simultaneous instances of the user control. For the time being, there is no metadata associated with the plots, other than the current folder/filename browsing.

  • Emissions review Tool: Dustin is working on fixing aggregations and source category corrections. We should look at possibilities for handling other output products, such as creating graphics for SEC categories. A suggestion is to use the SEC hierarchies, such as tier 3 reports (e.g. all mobile sources). Perhaps model functionality after ENVIRON SA too?

  • ENVIRON SA Tool: Code has been transferred to DW

4. Modeling I/O on viking

  • 2008 met: WRFCAMx files are being restored to viking from "big box of disks". Dustin is looking into running checksum comparison from UNC archive.
  • File recovery. Dustin has been able to recover accidentally deleted files from viking using file recovery. Creating more smaller partitions on viking would facilitate file recovery.
  • Base2020_08a files UNAVAILABLE. Dusting will rescan file system to reflect current status.

5. Data Request Status:

  • Table discussion for when Tom is on the call

6. Dustin updated the group on his GIS based tool. It is now based on ESRI tools, and he is working on automating components.

Action Items

For the group: Take a look at DW visualization tools and suggest "doable" modifications and other website content modifications in anticipation of the needs of the 3State cooperators.
